TRY MEMORISING THE FOLLOWING BULLET-POINTED CHECKLIST SO WHEN YOU ARE IN AN EXAM, YOU KNOW YOU'RE COVERING TH BASES!
Make a point, referring to the words in the essay question.
Don’t use the words ‘I’ or ‘quotation’!
Use characters’ names, not ‘he’ or ‘she’
Introduce your quotation, briefly
Say what page, scene, or line the quotation is on
Explain who is speaking, and what is happening in this scene or part of the text.
ALWAYS USE QUOTATION MARKS!!!
Don’t change the words in the text
EXPLAIN how your quotation proves the point you made (P)
It should refer back to the question
Try to give an opinion
Pick out words or phrases from your quotation to ANALYSE (think about other meanings of the word etc)
Consider how the audience or reader might react to this section of the text
